The short version
No accounts, no ads, no tracking. We keep what the game needs to run, for as short a time as it needs it, and none of it is linked to who you are. We don’t sell or share it with anyone.
Your device key
The first time you play, your phone or browser gets a random key. It is not your name, your email or your phone number, and we can’t work out who you are from it. It lets you rejoin your seat if you drop out, and it is what your seen prompts, your decks and any reports are filed under.
What we keep, and for how long
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Answers and names in a room | To run the game, and so a report can be checked | The room’s life, plus a day |
| Reports | The reported answer and the device keys involved, so we can review it | 30 days |
| Seen prompts | Which prompts your device key has had, so you don’t get repeats | 90 days |
| Shared front pages | The share card and its page, with names unless you hid them | 180 days |
| Local Edition decks | The deck, and what you typed to make it, so you can play it again | Until you delete it |
Your name, your settings (like Blur swearing and sounds) and your device key are also saved on your device. Clearing the site’s data removes them.
Local Edition and Google Gemini
To write a Local Edition deck, the theme, the names and the details you type are sent to Google Gemini, which writes the prompts. Only put in what you are happy for that to see, and for everyone in the room to see. You can delete a deck from My decks at any time.
What we don’t do
No advertising, no ad networks, no tracking across apps or sites, no selling or renting data, and no profile to build one from.
Age
Backchat is rated 17+ and is not directed at children.
