Party games without a TV

Most phone party games quietly need a big screen. Backchat doesn’t: the prompt, the answers and the vote all happen on everyone’s own phone, so it works anywhere you can sit together.

How it works with phones alone

  • One person starts a room at playbackchat.com and reads out the four-letter code.
  • Everyone joins on their phone. No app needed on the night, no account.
  • A prompt comes up on every phone. Everyone writes the funniest answer they can.
  • The answers come up with no names on them. Everyone votes, then the names flip in.

The Reader: someone reads it out

Without a telly, a party game loses its stage. Backchat gives one phone each round the Reader’s job: it reads the prompt and the answers out to the table, so everyone hears the jokes land together. The role moves round the table.

Where it works

  • The pub: no screen, a loud room, everyone already has their phone out.
  • Road trips: passengers play, the driver judges.
  • Camping, holidays, the airport: anywhere with signal.
  • Dinner parties: between courses, with the phones face down after.

Questions people ask

Do we all need to download an app?

No. Backchat runs in the browser, so anyone can join from the link. The app is there if you want it.

What if one phone drops out?

They rejoin with the same code and get their seat and score back.

No telly? No worries.

Start a room, share the code, and play with the phones you already have.
